Integrated Fire Management System
The EU-funded S2IGI project will support fire management in three principal stages of the process – to prevent and reduce wildfires, organise the management of firefighting, and after-fire recovery. The project will use satellite information, in site auxiliary data and weather predictions to achieve reliable and on time fire forecasts. S2IGI will be distributed as a Software as a Service (SaaS).

Space-based Information Support for Prevention and REcovery of Forest Fires Emergency in the MediteRranean Area
PREFER aims at responding to major fire prevention needs in Southern Europe. All reports on the state of Europe’s forests indicate that the broad Mediterranean area is systematically affected by uncontrolled forest fires with large impact on ecosystems, soil erosion, slope instability, desertification trends, and local economies as a whole, whit a negative mid-to-long term prospect because of Climate Change.

Understanding fire, weather and land cover interactions from long-term terrestrial observations and satellite data in a north to south transect in Europe and North Africa
Long-term historical fire records extending back to the late 1800s are very rare worldwide. Three such long-term historical fire data have been found for this research proposal; (i) Switzerland, central Europe (1900-2014), (ii) Greece, south Europe (1897-2014), and (iii) Algeria, north Africa (1870-2014) which together with the spatial-explicit reconstruction of recent fire history from Landsat satellite images (1984-2016), give a unique and excellent opportunity to understand fire.

Fire and Rescue Innovation Network
FIRE-IN has been designed to raise the security level of EU citizens by improving the national and European Fire & Rescue (F&R) capability development process. FIRE-IN addresses the concern that capability-driven research and innovation in this area needs much stronger guidance from practitioners and better exploitation of the technology potentially available for the discipline.

Advanced wildfire management system
Wildfires are unplanned and usually rage uncontrolled. Managing these fires is also a societal and ecological challenge. The EU-funded TREEADS project will focus on the forests at risk of wildfire to develop new products and integrate them in a holistic Fire Management platform aimed at optimising and reusing the existing socio-technological resources.

Innovative technologies and socio-ecological-economic solutions for fire resilient territories in Europe
There is a need to develop novel approaches that shift emphasis to the root causes and impacts of extreme wildfire events. To that end, the EU-funded FIRE-RES project will promote the implementation of a more holistic fire management approach and support the transition towards more resilient landscapes and communities.
