Description

MANIFESTO is an innovative research project that develops an AI-powered early warning system for the monitoring and management of the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP), an invasive pest responsible for transmitting the devastating Huanglongbing (HLB) disease in citrus crops. The project combines artificial intelligence, computer vision, remote sensing, causal machine learning, environmental data, and smart trapping technologies to enable the automated detection, monitoring, and prediction of pest outbreaks. By providing real-time alerts and decision-support information to farmers, researchers, and policymakers, MANIFESTO aims to reduce pesticide use, strengthen sustainable crop protection, and safeguard Cyprus’s citrus sector against emerging biological threats. The project contributes to the digital transformation of agriculture while supporting European objectives related to sustainable farming, food security, and environmentally responsible pest management.
