Description

GEORGIA is a Horizon Europe project that aims to transform agricultural water management and strengthen the resilience of European farming systems to drought and climate change. By integrating Artificial Intelligence, Earth Observation, digital twins, precision agriculture technologies, and advanced decision-support tools, the project develops innovative solutions for smart irrigation, soil health monitoring, and sustainable crop production. GEORGIA promotes the use of alternative water sources, including treated wastewater, desalinated water, rainwater harvesting, and atmospheric water collection, while optimizing the combined management of water, soil, and crop resources. Through seven pilot sites across Europe, including Cyprus, the project demonstrates how AI-powered irrigation systems, crop monitoring technologies, and sustainable agricultural practices can improve water-use efficiency, enhance soil health, reduce environmental impacts, and support climate-resilient farming aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
