Description

STEPS is an ESA-PECS project coordinated by the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence that aims to advance the monitoring and assessment of coastal erosion in Cyprus using Earth Observation and geoinformation technologies. Focusing on vulnerable coastal areas, particularly along the Limassol coastline, the project exploits Copernicus and ESA satellite data to identify erosion patterns, evaluate coastal vulnerability, and understand the natural and human-induced factors driving shoreline change. Through the development of methodologies, monitoring frameworks, and decision-support tools, STEPS provides valuable information to policymakers, coastal managers, and stakeholders for coastal risk assessment, adaptation planning, and the sustainable management of coastal environments under increasing pressures from climate change and human activities.
