EXCALIBUR is a Horizon Europe project that aims to transform the way burial sites, funerary artefacts, tomb structures, and human remains are studied, conserved, and restored through the use of advanced digital technologies. As part of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), the project develops a holistic framework of open-source and affordable tools based on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Digital Twins, and Extended Reality (XR) to support archaeologists, bioanthropologists, conservators, museologists, and heritage professionals. Through the co-design and validation of innovative digital toolkits in real-world pilot sites, including the UNESCO-listed Tombs of the Kings in Cyprus, EXCALIBUR enhances cultural heritage research, documentation, conservation, and interpretation while promoting knowledge sharing, interoperability, and wider access to cutting-edge heritage technologies across Europe.
